Lesson 4 of 12

Lesson 4

The Warm Palm

A calm, supportive technique to offer comfort when your baby is fussy or dealing with gas.

Babies can become fussy for many reasons, and sometimes trapped wind may be part of it. If your baby seems mildly uncomfortable or gassy but is otherwise well, offering a quiet moment of gentle touch and relaxed positioning can be deeply comforting.

When a baby is already upset, vigorous belly rubbing can sometimes cause more discomfort. Instead, offering steady warmth and allowing their legs to move in a relaxed rhythm is a much softer way to help them settle.

Illustration: a baby lies on their back on a firm flat mat on the floor, dressed in a sleepsuit. Their parent kneels close beside them with one warm palm resting on the baby's tummy, in a nursery lit by a single wall lamp.
On their back, on a firm flat surface, with you right beside them the whole time.
